What to Expect From Therapy

Change is an incremental process that takes time. Therapy requires a commitment to change and honesty. It is a safe place where you can explore your fears and fantasies, address unwanted issues, and grow to your fullest potential.

Each therapy session is 50-minutes and most people attend once per week. Some therapies are brief, lasting a few months while others require years of work. The length of treatment depends on the severity of the issues you are working on and how much change you would like to undergo.

Fees & Insurance

Please contact us for more information about fees.
We do not accept insurance. If you have a PPO you may be eligible for reimbursement of psychological services and we can provide you with a superbill.

Intake and Psychodiagnostic
Assessments

The first step in beginning treatment is a psychodiagnostic assessment. We will evaluate the nature and severity of the issues for which you are seeking support. This allows us to better understand the issues that need to be addressed and informs the types of treatment modalities that are most effective for you.

There are several levels of assessment available and they vary by comprehensiveness.

We can provide you with a psychodiagnostic assessment with a full, comprehensive report or with a summarized report for a lower fee. Psychosocial assessments are also available but do not include a report.

Please contact us for more information about the fees and specifics of these assessments.

"I’m grateful my therapist brought her passion and intelligence to the field of mental health. She’s compassionate, professional and down to earth with integrity that I’ve found to be extremely trustworthy."

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy will be beneficial?

Change is an incremental process that takes time. You will know that therapy is beneficial when you experience more clarity about your feelings, behaviors, and needs. Over time, you will notice that you feel better about yourself and your relationships are more satisfying. Your problematic behaviors will decrease and you find more meaning in life.

How long will therapy last?

Each therapy session is 50-minutes, and most people attend once per week. Some therapies are brief, lasting a few months while others require years of work. The length of therapy depends on the severity of the issues you are working on and how much change you would like to undergo.

How can therapy help me?

While there are no guarantees with therapy, most clients find that it helps with symptom reduction, behavioral change, improved mood, and increased satisfaction. It is important to identify your therapy goals with your clinician at the onset of treatment and to check in about them often.

How about medication vs. psychotherapy?

Research shows that effective treatment for the reduction of most psychological symptoms includes a combination of medication and psychotherapy. We respect your choices when it comes to medication and will discuss potential benefits and risks with you. If you choose to start medication, we will work closely with your prescriber to ensure you receive excellent treatment.

How much is therapy?

Our fees are based on customary rates for therapists in the Bay Area. We offer a sliding scale for those with financial need.

You are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what the charges could be for psychotherapy services provided to you. While it is not possible for a therapist to know in advance how many sessions may be necessary or appropriate for a given person, your clinician can provide an estimate of the cost of services provided.

Your total cost of services will depend upon the number of  sessions you attend, your individual circumstances, and the type and amount of services that are provided to you.

A Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. This estimate is not a contract and does not obligate you to obtain any services, nor does it include any services rendered to you that are not identified here. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. There may be additional items or services we recommend as part of your care that must be scheduled or requested separately.

Is therapy covered by insurance?

We do not accept insurance. If you have a PPO you may be eligible for reimbursement of psychological services and we can provide you with a superbill.
